The Pastoral & Learning System.....
From September 2008 the school is moving from the existing vertical House system to a horizontal year group system.
It was felt that this would enable the pastoral system to have a greater impact on teaching and learning.
The existing Learning managers have been allocated to year groups as heads of year so that their experience can be used to enhance their new roles.
In addition to the new year system there is a duty desk manned by 2 very experienced pastoral teachers at all times during the week. This ensures that there is always someone on hand to deal with the students and parents needs.
Pupils in Years 7 to 13 are divided into year groups.
The year groups are divided into Key Stages.
Key Stage 3 & 4
Years 7, 8 and 9 are in Key Stage 3
Years 10 and 11 are in Key Stage 4
Each year group has a Head of Year and each Key Stage is co-ordinated by an Asistant Headteacher.
The Key Stage 3 and 4 teams are all housed in purpose built areas which situates the year heads and the Assistant Headteacher next to each other in order to allow the sharing of information and to provide extra support etc.
All members of the team have their own desk space and a computer system which is enhanced by the use of our Lisol Portal.
There is also an extra floating asistant Head of Year assigned to assist in Key Stages 3 and 4.
Each year has a Year Council made up of representatives from each form.
The School Council is made up of representatives from the Year Councils plus representatives from the 6th form.
Key Stage 5
Years 12 and 13 are in Key Stage 5 and these 2 year groups form the 6th form.
The 6th form team is comprised of an Asistant Head teacher in charge of Key Stage 5 and a Learning Manager plus an assistant.
The 6th form team is also housed in their own block with computer facilities.
