Bryn Hafren has been awarded a National ICT Award for Leadership and Management (secondary) by Becta.

We are the only Secondary School in Wales to have been awarded such a prestigious ICT Mark by the British Education Communications and Technology Agency, which is funded by the government.

The 6th formers based on our site are certainly well looked after and ... well fed! Just take a look at their canteen situated in their common room!

The canteen serves food and drink from 9am to 2pm every day of the week.

Special offers are available every day such as a large toasted teacake and a delicious hot chocolate or a choice of coffees for just a £1.

The canteen also serves excellent sandwiches, bagettes and has a self service salad bar and the crumpets are pretty good too.

Talk about service with a smile.

Bryn Hafren Comprehensive Staff took part again this year in the Race for Life in Cardiff.

The unpredictable weather did not deter the group who crossed the finish line together. Staff then held a coffee morning to boost their sponsorship.

Stacey Richard

was recognised nationally and locally by receiving the Princess Diana Award and Soroptimist Youth in the Community Cup for her outstanding contribution to the local community and her charity work with Breast Cancer Research, MacMillan nurses and Children in Need and Ty Hafan.

World book day ! From LRC News Summer 2008

Ecuador 5 mile Run !

Thank you everyone who joined in the fun on World Book Day.

Staff and pupils alike dressed up as their favourite character from a book and we had lots of

prizes for the “Return Your Book”

competition.

On Sunday July 5th, Team Amazon from Bryn Hafren Comprehensive school braved the elements to raise funds towards their rainforest conservation project, due to depart in February 2009.

The pupils and their teacher Mrs Smith ran a gruelling 5 miles through Barry to raise funds and they would like to say a huge thank you to their sponsors and to Hugh Thomas and the staff at Barry McDonalds who arranged ice cream and drinks on their arrival.

Start thinking about your character for next year, leave it too late and you’ll struggle!

Design & Technology Challenge 2008

The end of the Summer term saw pupils and staff taking part in the annual Design Technology Challenge.

The aim was to inflate as many ballooons as possible and transport them on a course, without using hands to carry them. There were many and varied "appliances" and costumes used and much fun was

had by all.
